Increasingly, people are turning to places of worship to get accurate, useful information about issues that uniquely affect African Americans. Kidney disease is one of those issues, as it affects African Americans more than other groups. This is due to the high rates of diabetes and high blood pressure–the leading causes of kidney disease–in the African American community. While many people know about high blood pressure and diabetes, most are unaware of their risk for kidney disease. Kidney Sundays are a great opportunity to raise awareness within your faith community about the risks for kidney disease and the importance of getting tested. Get involved–dedicate one Sunday service to educating your members about the kidney connection with diabetes and high blood pressure. The Kidney Sundays program gives you the tools you need. |
