I found the Kidney Sundays materials very informative and easy to use. The information is accurate, relevant, and on a level that was easy for people with little to no medical knowledge to understand. It helped to facilitate a much needed discussion on kidney disease among our faith community, as many participants found out that they had one or more risk factors. The Make the Kidney Connection fans were definitely a hit!
I had no idea my blood pressure was high. I’m more aware of my own health after reading the NKDEP materials, and now my family is too. This is our new family reunion tradition!
I think we still have lots of work ahead of us in terms of educating people on the serious effects of diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and eating habits, and how each relate to kidney health. Efforts such as Kidney Sundays are a great start to help pastors' spouses get the conversations started. This faith-focused kidney awareness campaign gives churches an opportunity to post on church bulletin boards, to disseminate via church bulletins, and to preach from the pulpit about information in a forum where we know people trust us and will pay attention.
