On occasion, NKDEP invites Coordinating Panel members and other experts to participate in ad hoc Working Groups, which are established for a specific purpose. One current NKDEP Working Group is the Laboratory Working Group. Former NKDEP Working Groups include the Dialysis Center Working Group and Evaluation Working Group.
The Lab Working Group (LWG) works to improve the laboratory assessment of chronic kidney disease. It was initially convened to support standardization of serum creatinine measurement, with the goal of improved accuracy of GFR estimations. The current primary focus is standardizing measurement and reporting of urine albumin.
